Top photoshoot locations along the Columbia River Gorge

my top 3 locations

The Columbia River Gorge is a breathtaking backdrop for photography, offering stunning landscapes and diverse scenery. If you’re planning a photoshoot in this picturesque area, here are three top locations you won’t want to miss.

all of these locations are easily accessible with little to no hiking involved!
(Hiking is optional - but not required for any of these locations!)

rowena crest/tom mccall nature preserve:

Rowena Crest is renowned for its sweeping views of the Columbia River and the surrounding mountains. This location features vibrant wildflowers in the spring and a dramatic landscape year-round. The winding road leading to the viewpoint offers unique angles for capturing the beauty of the gorge. Sunrise and sunset provide soft lighting, enhancing the colors of the landscape. Whether you're shooting portraits or landscapes, Rowena Crest is a must-visit spot. Tom mccall nature preserve is across the street practically connected to rowena so this spot is a 2 for 1!

Latourell Falls is one of the most accessible and stunning waterfalls in the Gorge. The picturesque 249-foot waterfall tumbles down a dramatic basalt cliff, surrounded by lush greenery. The short walk to the falls is manageable and offers various vantage points for photography. The mist from the waterfall creates an enchanting atmosphere, especially after rainfall. For a magical touch, consider visiting during the golden hour when the sunlight filters through the trees, illuminating the cascading water. note that this can be a busy location and bring comfortable shoes if you want to go down in the water/rocky area as it's slippery. If you go in that area, I also suggest to bring a dry, comfy set of clothes for the drive home!

government cove:

latourell falls:

For a tranquil setting, Government Cove is an excellent choice. This hidden gem features serene waters surrounded by towering cliffs and lush forests. The reflections on the water create a perfect mirror effect, making it ideal for stunning landscape shots. This location is also great for couples who want a little more privacy as it's never too crowded. A sunset here can provide a breathtaking backdrop, with the sky painted in vibrant colors mirrored in the calm waters.

These three locations along the Columbia River Gorge offer diverse scenery that’s perfect for any photoshoot. Whether you’re capturing landscapes, portraits, or family moments, the natural beauty of the Gorge will provide an unforgettable view!
